An Avery Madden Crazy Critters Exclusive
If you decide to get a Sphynx Cat, you probably wouldn’t want to name her Fluffy. This hairless cat is friendly, entertaining, and velvety! These felines make exceptional pets and are probably considered rock stars in the animal kingdom.
Avery Madden: All right Cleo, I’m going to cut right to the chase: hairless cats. Some people love ‘em, some people can’t stand ‘em. You’re one controversial kitty. How does that make you feel
Cleo Cat: Not to be totally full of myself, but anyone would be nuts to pass up the chance to own a Sphynx cat. I am a rare breed, after all—the product of two cats who both possess the recessive hairless trait.
AM: Well, that is quite an accomplishment. Still though, doesn’t the bad rep ever get to you? I mean, Mr. Bigglesworth from Austin Powers wasn’t the Sphynx’s finest hour
CC: I suppose I have my bad days. But there comes a time when every queen—that’s what you call a female cat—has to ask the question: "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the barest of them all?" And the answer is always moi.
AM: Moi? Is that French
CC: French Canadian, actually. My family’s originally from Toronto.
AM: I see. So, what’s it like to be the barest of them all?
CC: Cold, now that you mention it. Beauty is pain, as they say. My exquisite appearance comes at a price: being prone to sunburn and sunstroke, and also getting chilly very easily. As long as I have another cat or person to snuggle with, I’ll be fine.
AM: Well I’d love to snuggle with you Cleo, but my mom is allergic to fur. Maybe a Syphnx Cat would be the solution to her problem.
CC: Unfortunately there’s no guarantee. For people with mild allergies, hairless cats can do the trick. But for the severely allergic our fur is still troublesome, even though we don’t have much of it.
AM: Don’t have much is right! I can’t help but notice ALL of your stunningly clean skin. What’s your recommended beauty regime?
CC: Cleanliness is next to queenliness! Most cats hate water, but we Sphynx have been getting bathed since we were kittens. Natural oil and dirt stays on our bodies instead of getting spread out on the fur, so it’s important to bathe happily and often. Clean ears are a definite bonus!
AM: Thanks, Cleo, for being so bare and honest.
CC: My pleasure, Avery.
