I swear, I could hear all the hootin’ and yelling of Red Sox fans after Game 4 of the World Series from my bedroom in Brookline. No joke! When Red Sox pitcher Jonathan Papelbon struck out the last Colorado Rockies player—winning the World Series for the Sox—there was an EXPLOSION of cheers and happy tears from players and fans alike. Why? Well, because Red Sox fans are a little crazy. Ha! But in a good way.
What IS it about baseball that gets fans so worked up? Why is a game where you hit a ball with a stick our “National Pastime?” Check out these Baseball Fun Facts!
• A mystery of history: No one knows EXACTLY how baseball got started, but baseball as we know it today was developed in New York in the 1800s.
• The first-ever World Series was held in 1903 between a team called the Boston Americans and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Boston won! Whoo hoooo!
• The New York Yankees have won the most World Series titles—a whopping 26!
• The longest baseball game ever played was between the Brooklyn Robins and the Boston Braves on May 1, 1920. Instead of the usual nine innings, this game had 26!
• Baseball legend Babe Ruth (1895-1948) used to keep a cabbage leaf under his baseball cap to keep his head cool. Talk about a Cabbage Patch Kid! LoL!
• In 1935, the National Baseball Hall of Fame opened in Cooperstown, New York—the place many people call the birthplace of baseball.
• The first Little League World Series was held in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, in 1947.
• Cal Ripkin Jr. of the Baltimore Orioles set the record for the most games played in a row (no sick days! no injuries!) at 2,632 games played in 16 years!
• The most homeruns scored by one person in a single season is 73 by Barry Bonds in 2001.
• After 86 years of losing in the post-season, in 2004 the Boston Red Sox won the World Series for the first time since 1918. Sweeeet!
• In 2007, the Boston Red Sox become World Series Champs (whooo!)—making them the first team to win two titles in the 21st century.

i luv softball my travel team won our league came in 4th in states and 3rd in regionals we were like 29-4
we werent undefaeted though
the manny trade was the saddest thing ever!!!!!!!! he was one of my fave redsox.
i am from colorado but im the biggest red sox fan ever so 4 the ws my mom and i mad tee shirts that said, "go rock-sox" and i wore it 2 school. everyone loved it
my softball team got to go to the USSSA softball world series

It's a good thing Manny got traded. He was holding the team back. He showed up at every game saying, "My knee hurts" or "My leg hurts." BLAH, BLAH, BLAH! Terry Francona made a good trade. Jason Bay is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than Manny Rameirez!
