Best of BSG Moms
Mi madre and I are really close. Ever since she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, I totally appreciate my mom in a new way—she has good days and bad days, but no matter what, she is ALWAYS there for me. One time, I found myself in this crazy situation where I had promised Kevin Connors that I would go with him to Jeri's Place in Boston—not realizing that it would mean I couldn't go to the Valentine's Day Dance at Abigail Adams Junior High with the rest of the BSG. I didn't know what to do! "One dance will not make up for the bad feeling that you will have for breaking a promise to a friend," my mother said. "You are my responsible daughter. You know what is the right thing to do." As usual, my mom was right—read all about it in BSG book #14, Crush Alert. Adios, It's moi, the one and only Maeve. Recently, my mom surprised me by going out and buying… dun, dun, DUN! My first bra. It was totally awkward and kind of embarrassing at first, but once we sat and talked about the situation, I was really glad—and relieved. When I first discovered the bra she had bought me in a shopping bag on my bed, she admitted, "When I was your age I was way too embarrassed to ask my mom about getting a bra. She just sort of figured out when that time had come and left one on my bed like I did for you." Now, that's not to say the bra was exactly what I had in mind, but that's another story. Get the full scoop on my bra-shopping experience in BSG book #13, Green Algae and Bubble Gum Wars. XOXO, This is Charlotte. Mother's Day is always a little gloomy for my dad and me because my mother passed away when I was little. Sometimes, it makes me think about how much I miss my mother and how things might be different if she were alive. But, when I start thinking like that, I try to remember the other women in my life who are there to support me, like Miss Pierce, my teacher Ms. Rodriguez, my friend Sophie's mom, and all of the BSGs' moms who are always so kind and supportive of me. Of course, I also think about my dad, who is the best father I could possibly ask for. I know he misses my mom just as much as I do. Read more about her in BSG book #1, Worst Enemies/Best Friends. Your friend, My mom is really busy—she's got a really great job as a lawyer, and she's one of the smartest women I know. Whenever I need help sorting something out in my life—whether it be with friends or homework—my mom is there to work it out. When I found myself knee deep in homework AND completing an application for a teen entrepreneur contest, my mom dropped everything to help me out. The night before everything was due, she came home from work, clicked her PDA shut and said, "Honey, my evening is yours. We'll get whatever we need to get done for tomorrow first and then go from there. Don't you worry now. When I get in situations like this at work, I bring in the troops to help. So, let's get cracking here." Now I know who I get my super-organization skills from—my mom! Get the whole story in BSG book #12, Time's Up. TTYL, Avery here, with a big shout out to my mom. When that big Valentine's Day Dance was happening at school, I made a big mess out of telling Dillon to ask Maeve when he actually asked me. I mean, how was I supposed to know about how the dating world works? So, I confided in my mom about how weird it was that Dillon (my bud) wanted to go with me. "Honey, it's perfectly normal and fine to be just friends with boys," my mom told me. "You'll know when you start seeing boys a new way. And there's no need to be in a big hurry to get there! Someday you'll find a guy with the perfect sense of humor, intelligence, and crazy sports skills!" Yeah, I'm definitely not there yet, but that's the kind of guy I'd be into!
