Grandma Ruby's Apple Crisp
![]() Hey! It's Katani. Last weekend, I went apple picking with my sister, Kelley—we had a blast! Of course, we ate most of the apples straight out of the orchard, but I like to mix things up a bit by baking them in apple crisp, especially if my Grandma Ruby helps out. Everyone knows she's one of the best bakers in Brookline. (Everyone also knows that she is the principal of Abigail Adams Junior High!) Check out her secret recipe! Grandma Ruby's Apple Crisp Ingredients: • 1 cup sugar • 2 tsp. lemon juice • 3/4 cup rolled oats (you can use 2 packets of instant oatmeal instead) • 1/4 cup water • 1 tsp. cinnamon • 6 large apples, peeled and sliced • 3/4 cup flour • 1/4 tsp. salt • 6 tablespoons butter Instructions: 1) Remember, ask an adult for help when you use the oven! Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. 2) Mix 1/2 cup of sugar, the lemon juice, the water and the cinnamon in bottom of small baking pan. 3) Add the apples. In a blender or food processor, blend the rest of the sugar, the flour, the salt, the butter and the oats until crumbly. 4) Spread over apples and pat it smooth. Bake at 375 degrees for 40-50 minutes, until the apples are tender and crust is browned. 5) Let it cool a little, and then serve it while it's still hot. And of course, you've got to add some ice cream! |
