Isabel's Drawing Game

Writing
Hola! It's Isabel. Do you ever get out a blank piece of paper and just don't know what to draw? It happens to me all the time! Next time you get "artist's block," grab a few friends and try my favorite drawing game together. You'll get some great ideas, and I bet it'll make you all laugh, too!

Materials:

•  Blank paper (try reusing the backs of old paper to be extra earth-friendly!)

•  Colored pencils, markers, or crayons (you can use a mix of all three if you want)

•  Binders or large books to use as dividers

Directions:

1) Sit at a table with one or more friends and put all the drawing materials in the middle. You each take one piece of paper.

2) Set up the binders or books so none of you can see your friends’ paper.

3) Go around in a circle and take turns giving each other directions of what to draw, just using lines and shapes and colors. Here are some ideas to get you started!

     •   Using orange, draw a big circle

     •   Draw a thick, jagged line from one corner to another

     •   Draw five blue stars

     •   Draw a dotted line dividing the paper in half

     •   Draw polka dots inside the big circle

     •   Make a curvy, loopy red line

     •   Draw a diamond in one corner of the paper

     •   Connect the diamond to one of the stars

     •   Hide the letters of your name somewhere on the paper

     •   Fill in one shape with purple lines

4) The game ends when nobody has any room left on her paper. Then you all get to look at everybody else's crazy pictures. Surprise! Even though you followed the same directions, every one's drawing is totally different.

Fun Tip:
If you want to play again, try mixing in some real things with the lines and shapes. You could tell your friends to draw a kangaroo, or a tulip, or a guitar. Your pictures will all still be unique!
