Poem in a Pinch!

Writing a poem is a snap! All you need are some words. Grab a pair of scissors and get ready for this wacky, cool, and creative poem-writing game. You can play alone or with your BFFs!

Stuff you need:

• Scissors
• Old magazines
• Tape
• Paper and pen

Directions:

1) Look through the magazines and cut out a bunch of cool words or phrases.

Hint: If you want to preserve these words for lots of future games, you can lay out the words along a piece of clear packing tape, cover them with more tape on the other side, then cut them out.

2) Now, put all your words in a box or hat, reach in with your eyes closed… and take out a pinch (about 5-7 words)!

3) Can you use all those words to make a poem? You're allowed to add other words you need. Let your imagination run wild, but make sure you include everything from your pinch.

4) If you're playing with friends, try all using the same words and see how your poems turn out completely different! Then you can each grab your own pinch for the next round.

5) Write out your finished poems on a piece of paper, then share!
