"Save the Earth!"

EarthFast forward to the future... global warming has taken over the planet, and the world is in big trouble! Cities are flooding, polar bears and penguins have gone extinct, and most people have never seen snow. Little does the world know that there is a group of kids coming together who all have special powers. Will they use their powers to fix planet Earth?

Here are the winning stories:

Geminichik - Most Dramatic

Justine H was awe-struck. she was flabbergasted. she was enraged. "global warming AWARENESS!" she practically screamed at a man walking by in a pair of cargo shorts, a striped muscle tee, and some leather flip-flops. "doesn't it concern any of you that you are comfortably wearing sandals in january???"

the man just kept walking without so much as a 2nd glance. Justine sighed, brushing her sweaty palms onto her green twill shorts. she uncapped her glaceau water and took a long, refreashing sip.

just then, Justine's best guy friend connor slammed the screen door and blasted outside, a cold towel around his sweaty neck. he wiped the sweat off his forehead and mixed the lemonade he had broght outside for her and himself. "so, did you get any fliers out yet?" he asked. "and when i say a few, i mean that in the most literal sense."

"oh." connors face was obviously downcast. Justine sank into her lawn chair, sipping a cup of lemonade. her sips were long and dull, and she looked completely lifeless. when Connor saw her expression, he hugged her casually to him with his shouders, ruffling her brown hair and giving her a playfull noogie. "don't worry, kiddo." he said comfortingly. "we'll figure this out. i know we will."

by the end of that disturbingly humid january day, Connor and Justine had only made 10 measly dollars for their research fund. Barely annyone had taken a look at their hard-worked on fliers, artistically decorated, splaying facts about the global meltdown and ways to help. Connor's lip wobbled in near-defeat, wheras Justine's throat burned with rage.

"don't they care, Con?" Justine asked. Connor was busy dragging their eco-friendly bamboo display table acroos his lawn. Jamie folded the lawn chairs and collected the leftover fliers. the grass beneath her barefeet was mushy and slick-there had been so much rain recently. too much rain. "don't they care about whats going on in our planet at all?'

''Its not so much that they don't care, J" Con said, using his nick name for her. "its just that they don't feel they can do anything about it."

But they CAN do something about it! Justine wanted to scream. They could reuse things. they could use alternates like string and other recyclables. they could give money to them and take one of their fliers, for one! But instead, she jus pulled her fingers through her wavy auburn curls and sighed. "i guess we're just a couple of dreamers, right Connor?" Connor only responded with a soft smile. ''yeah.''

The next day was a monday and Connor slammed the screen door of his average sized shuttured house. his adidas sneakers skidded in the wet grass as he scrambled through Mr. M’s backyard, narrowly squashing the one poisinetta in the flower patch. As he scrambled over the fence and onto Justine's street, he wondered about that little bud, that little flower, that had managed to survive through the flood rains and sloshy, humid rains that had flooded some cities already and washed most of flowers and moss away, leaving the wood wet and dank and the trees moldy and lifeless. the foliage was pathetic and stringy. Connor struggled to think back to the time before global warming, picturing trees bright and healthy. As he thought, he felt a rumbling sensation deep down. he remembered the rumble of rain clouds, of drizzles brushing against his face. Suddenly, Connor remembered it all.

Over at the rented sprawling victorian estate that Justine's mother rented, Justine, wearing a blue tank top with cotton eyelet skirt, washing her breakfast dishes. As the water coursed over her hands, suddenly, the kitchen, the dishes, the loofah---all seemed to fade away. all she could think about was the water. She could feel the water on her hands, the water pearls balanced on her fingers. she could feel it evaporing. she could feel herself adding jut the right amount of moisture... she was controlling water!!! it was like someone giving her the recipie: she was just doing the mixing. someone else as imagining this rain, she realized. but she was the one conjuring it. Justine gasped, dropping her china toast plate in the sink with a clash.

"JUSTINE!" Amara, Justines older sister, scolded her. But Justines mind was on a total different matter. what till she told connor hat her powers could do for nature!!! Justine had never peddled her bike so fast in all her life. her heart was doing a mambo in her chest and her feet couldn't slow down. They didn't want to. out of pure emotion, Justine screamed out loud, just for fun. she saing one of her famous anthems, Everlife's: "I can save the world someday." i CAN save the world someday! Justine thought giddily. i CAN!

Justine never imagined feeling so happy, not ever. DEFINETLY not since global warming, that for sure. She gave out a loud wahoo as she cruised down the hill on her way to Jr. High School, not caring even if LiAnne and Selena, the 2 coolest girls in the 7th grade, or anyone else, for that matter, was looking at her like she was the craziest girl in the world.

As soon as she saw Connor, Justine dropped her bags and her textbook in the middle of the hallway, nearly plowed over Lyssa R, and ran right to him.

POW!

Connor was aghast. Justine had knocked the wind out of him! she had knocked into him with such speed that he actually couldn't breathe. Connor blinked, trying to figure out what was going on. tentively, he realized that Justine, his best friend in the world, had her arms around him! she was clinging to him and, was she crying??? Connor instictively put his arms around her.

"whats up with that," Lyssa muttered snidely, wathching enviously as Connor hugged Justine. The two of them just didnt seem to care that they were standing, arms wrapped around eachother, in the super busy hallways of the Jr. High school.

Earth Saving Goal: To stop global warming and to recycle and reduce uneeded energy.

Special Power: She has the power of love for almost everyone.....she is nice to everyone and will help anyone and need and will help the enviroment

Also Lilly's best friend is Daisy.

When I woke up in the morning the weather was beautiful....The sun was shining through the little bit of clouds with the blue sky on the other side....It was the perfect day for swimming with Daisy I thought. I slipped on my green swimsuit (of course my favorite color since I love the enviroment) And then over my swimsuit I slipped on my Green and White Plaid shorts and a white tank top with a green blouse....I looked beautiful... I then went to the bathroom brushed my hair and brushed my teeth and headed down to the kitchen to eat breakfast....After I ate my sausage, toast, and eggs I waved goodbye to my mother, slipped my green flip flops on, and walked out the door to meet Daisy at her house.

As I was walking down the sidewalk to Daisy house down the street I noticed flowers wilting and dying....I didn't understand why, they just bloomed and it was Spring! I looked and there were chemicals coming out of this new factory down the street from my house...they were killing the plants! I had to do something! So I then ran the rest of the way to Daisy's house and rang on her doorbell....It took her a moment to get to the door but when she came she had a matching outfit just like mine accept it was pink, her favorite color. Daisy said, "Hey Lilly you looked worried about something...are you alright?" I shook my head no and told her the whole story about the factory and the wilting/dying flowers...Daisy looked shocked and answered, "But our city loves the enviroment why would they build a horrible chemical factory?" "I don't know" I answered back, "But we have to do something."

We finally then reached the factory after our long conversation about what to do...."Well I will go talk to the manager you go by the plants..." I told Daisy in a very serious tone. Daisy nodded her head and then was sprinting down the street to the Nursery. I then walked up to the factories main door and rang their door bell....A nice plump looking man answered, "How may I help you young lady?" "umm...." I said, "I need to talk to the manager." "Oh well I'm the manager....I'm Mr. E. or you can call me Earthie." I couldn't believe my ears his name was earthie and he was destroying our enviroment..

"Umm....Mr. E I came to talk to you because some of your plant are dying in the front because of your chemicals from your factory." I said in my best buisness tone. "Well I see that is a problem little lady, why don't you come into my office to find a way not to have our chemicals hurting the enviroment." I then nodded my head and followed Earthie into his factory. We reached Earthies office and I sat down in a chair by his desk. "Mr. E my idea is to have your company use none toxic chemicals there are some out there and my friend and I have offered to plant new plant and trees for you." Mr. E nodded in agreement but looked at me sadly, "But I can't afford none toxic chemicals, they are to spendy."

"I understand but my friend and I could help you. We love the enviroment so we could help you with a fundraiser." I said in response. I didn't want to sound pushy but I really wanted to help the plants and the enviroment. "Well that's a great idea...we can start today, and is that your friend outside with all the plants?" Mr. E asked. "Yes..." I looked down embarrased, we were planning to plant some today." I told him shyly. "Well that's great! Let's get started."

Two Months Later:

"We would like to give a special thanks to Daisy C and of course the girl with the idea to help us Lilly C! Give them a round of applause!" Mr. E boomed at the grand new opening of his factory. "Lilly please come up and speak." Mr. E explained. I then walked up to the podium and said, "Well I love the enviroment and I want to keep our flowers, animals, and humans safe from toxic chemicals...that's why I helped Earthie umm...I mean Mr. E." I said booming into the microphone and then looking down shyly....Then I talked about the fundraiser and everything...That was my first time saving part of the planet from a disaster with my best friend Daisy by my side.

SparkyMooMoo - Most Sci-Fi

Name: Mercury

Gender/Age: F/15

Appearance: silky blond tresses that hit her ribs, emerald eyes with aqua specks, light drizzle of freckles along her nose

Personality: bubbly, humble, responsible, outgoing

Special interests/skills: reading, writing, singing, dancing

Special power: she controls plants and flowers and other things like that...

Earth-saving goal: for people to stop picking wild flowers or plants, they should stay where they are!!!

BFF’s name: Silver

Vines, branches, roots. That was just a short description of what was wrapped around my petite body. My ribs were crushed and my lungs had as much pressure on them as a descending diver. I knew I had zero chances of surviving, but it was not the worst way to die.

On that day I had not known about my power. It was not something you're born with. It definitely was not a special gift either. The only reason I survived was because of my power, not because of my strong stomach muscles. What's my power you ask? I'm not actually quite sure. But, the one thing I do know is that if I'm ever in need of some help, Mother Nature is there for me.

The next day: The next day at school was not a happy day, everyone was all up in my face because my 'accident' was broadcast all over the news. I knew everyone would be all "Omigosh, Mer!!! Are you OK?" and, "Are you hurt?" and more, but I never expected the 24 people in my class to be giving me cute, brown teddy bears and chocolates! It's out of control!!! But, then again, when Silver, my BFF, got the chicken pox last year, about half of the class pulled their desks to the side of the room, leaving just her BFFs with her in 6 group pod.

History was not great either. Mr.B was all up in my face about how my homework was not done and how scratches on your legs and face is not appropriate. Did he not get the memo?!?

"I. . . uh. . . I. . . didn't have time." I explained, staring at his lime eyes, reading his expression.

"Well, Miss. H, you're redoing it 5 times and writing, Being wrapped in vines and roots is not an apropriate excuse, 20 times on a blank piece of paper with your left hand 10 times and your right hand the last 10 times!" Mr. B varified. I growled and slumped in my seat. Unfair, I thought to myself.

Hearing the bell ring was like Christmas morning. My friends and I are free to do whatever we want! Except me, of course. I have to stay in at recess and finish my homework 5 stinkin times and write things on the board until both my hands cramp.
"Mercury." Mr. Barner held his hand up to get my attention before I tried to make a run for it.

I slowly aproached his desk and set my books down, "Yes?" I asked sarcasticaly, looking to my left and rolling my eyes.

"Grab that chalk and start writing. Your homework will be done in study hall. I have told the librarian already, so don't try to tell her differently."

Study hall. I could name over a gazillion boring things about it. But, alas, I can't because I'm re writing my homework 5 times with the librarian's 'eyes on me'.

I looked over at her and shuddered. She was staring at me like I was her hostage. Getting back to work, I realized that writing a 400 word essay on my hometown is as bad as it seems. .....Furthermore, Colrado is an excellent state that-- My writing was interupted by a loud CRASH! Coming from the window behind me. The glass smithered across the wooden floor and landed.

Seeming as if they came from smoke, appeared 3 figures. One slim with chocolatey brown hair and pale skin. The one besied her was blond with emerald eyes and about 6'2. The one on the right looked like there leader, but I wasn't sure. He was about 7'0 with streaked spikes along his flat head.

Their glistening eyes were staring at me. I backed away and eventually I was out of my chair as they inched closer to me. Reaching the librarian's desk the trio was about 1 foot away from me. I had no where else to go because Ms. G--the librarian--treatened to report me if I stepped one inch away from her desk without a decent reason and I was sure that elling her weird people are about to attack is not one.

"Mercury?" The blond asked as they finally stopped scaring me.

I gulped and replied, "I am not the droid you are looking for." I stated, holding my finger in front of myself and wrinkling my eyebrows.

"Right. . ." The man said sarcastically.

"Fine. I'm Mercury, just Mercury please." I fessed.

"Can you come with us?" The brunette asked.

"Uhh. . ." I thought.

"Listen, kid. You need to come with us." The man reached over and grabbed my arm. I pulled away fast.

"Why?" I questioned.

"We'll explain it all at your house. How does that sound? That way we can talk with your parents as well." The blonde asked. I thought for a few minutes and then finally gave in. Not knowing what I was getting myself into.

I now know the people's names. The brunette was Angela, the blonde was Katanglee. and the man was Brady. Apparently they were all 'special' people who were sent to find all the kids who have special powers. I believed them, but not that much.

"So what you're saying is that you've come from a 'magical land' to find all the kids in the world who have special earth saving powers?" I asked, waving my hands when I said magical.

"Yeah, pretty much." Angela made pretty the key word, I don't know why.

"That's really stupid." I got out of the armchair and started walking to my room. Before I reach the twisting stairs Brady mumbled something under his breath that I didn't catch. Before I knew it, I was being pulled back by some force.

"Hey! Let me go!" I stuggled, but there was nothing to grasped. I felt something but I couldn't see it.

"What is this?!?" I asked, still struggling.

"It's the wind." Brady explained calmly.

"Get it off me!"

"I'll let go if you believe us." Brady stated.

"Fine! I believe you. Now get this torture off me!" The pressing wind was released and I fell back on the stairs.

I limped over to the group. My left hand wrapped around my neck, the other on my back.

"Tell us, what do you do?" Angela asked softly, curiousity in her eyes.

"What do you mean?" I asked, looking up at her.

"What's your power?" Katanglee clarified, not being as soft as Angela had.

"I-I-I. . . uhhhh. . . I think I control plants and greens and stuff." I told them, unsure of what I was saying.

The group thought to eachother about this for a long time. A loonnngg time. I got out of my seat and tapped Brady on the shoulder. He looked at me and I gave him a I'm-sill-here look and a are-you-done-yet look as well.

"OK, we've figured it out." Angela told me, sitting back on the couch beside Katanglee.

"So?" I asked.

"You, my meloncholy friend, control Mother Nature. Not the person, but her sons and daughters and stuff." Katanglee explained.

"W-w-why did you say, 'meloncholy'?" I asked.

"Because, you're in for some trouble." Brady told me. I shivered and before I knew it, there was a poof of smoke and they were gone. I gulped. Uh-oh.

BEEEEPPP BEEEEPPPP. I slapped the snooze button down and pulled the plug. 5 minutes later the alarm went off again. I cracked my left eye open and looked at the time. In weid lettering was: Lok windw. Who can't spell look and window? I thought to myself as I got of bed. I peered out the window and saw Brady, Angela and Katanglee outside my window, floating in the air. Slapping my forehead, I threw the window open and screamed, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE AT 3:00 IN THE MORNING?!?"

"Get some clothes on. Nice ones. Preferably a skirt and nice shirt, but I don't thin kyou own those. So, whatever you think is great then wear that." Brady told me. I sighed and walked over to my dresser and pulled out sweat pants and an old shirt. I didn't really care what they told me to wear.
