Top 25 Green Tips

recyclable_240.jpgYo! This is Avery Madden. After turning our school science fair all environmental in Green Algae and Bubble Gum Wars , I’ve taken on all sorts of other causes. I got my mom to start recycling, bought a reusable canvas lunch bag, and started biking to soccer practice! Here are the top 25 Go-Green tips from Beacon Street Girls fans!

1. berriboo - I really like helping the environment. Our school started a program called Project:Recycle. They put recycle bins all over the school, and even replaced some of our trash cans with recycle ones. My partner and I did a project on pollution and going green. We got kids to start using reusable water bottles and napkins. And instead of using nitrogen fertilizer for our gardens, we have a worm bin which we compost items that the worms can break down. Then we water our gardens with the worm fertilizer.
10 things you can do to go green
- Use natural cleaners.
- Walk places or ride your bike if you can.
- Use hair curlers instead of a curling iron.
- Buy lights that use less power than regular bulbs.
- Plant a tree because they emit oxygen into the atmosphere.
- Read magazines online.
- Use all of the nail polish in the bottle.
- Organize a garbage pick up for your class.
- Limit shower time.
- Collect rain to water your plants.

2. amon - Last year my class entered the disney enviormentatity challenge and won! We worked on conserving water. We made coloring books and sold them for three dollars. All the money went to buying water pumps for people in Africa. The water pumps cost around 40,000 dollars. We were able to buy two! As a reward we got to go to Disney World for an overnight stay for free. It felt really good going green!!!

3. polarbear78 - My school is very aware of the world around them. The school is now paperless (which means we send e-mails and stuff), and we have donated lots of money to a polar bear foundation. My grade has adopted two penguins, because they are suffering due to global warming. We recycle our milk cartons, paper, and other recyclable things. We plant plants in the spring and fall to give more oxygen to our world. We also go around town once in a while and pick up litter to make our town clean. Our school is Eco-Excellent!!!

4. jumpingstar - My school had a catalog canceling challenge. You may not think this does much, but last year we canceled over 4,000 catalogs! That's the energy equivalent of taking 1 car off the road for good, which may not seem like a lot but in the longrun , think if every school in the USA did this, we'd save enough energy to take about 1,000,000 cars off the road. Canceling catalogs also saves gallons of water, and a lot of trees!

5. jennal23 - I talked to my music teacher to write songs about the enviorment. She made my whole school do it! We got rappers to sing the songs. My school charged $10.00 for each CD. All of the money went to our School Forest!

6. bumblebee3 - I make a difference every day by biking to school and back home again. Me and my family have a recycling bin and so does my school. I help pick up garbage and I have dug out black berries ( they are a invasive plant and harm native plants to our environment,) and have even planted some trees.

7. Jorden - I some times cook food like popcorn and soup on my wood stove so i dont have to use energy or oil. Instead of whatching tv i read a book. GO GREEN!!!!

11. bratz898 - I have gotten half of my church, my parents, and my friends to go green. instead of using styrophom (not sure if I spelled that right) I use glass mugs. if we love our lives and our planet we won't use styrophom and recycle.

We have been trying to get water saved by putting stickers in bathrooms that say stuff like "a leaky toilet wastes 200 gallons annually"and things like that. Then we wrote a PSA about it and aired it. Finally we took water conservashen cards to hotels and restrants.

19. bbzz12 - Well, if you use a laptop it doesn't use as much energy as a big computer because it is smaller. When you are done on the computer if you put it on sleep then not doing anything you save a lot more energy then you thought you would.
