Healthy Eating in the Caf

Hey dudes!

If you know the Ave, then you know that I’m a healthy eater. Like, soda? No way. I’ll take a frosty glass of ice-cold cran-apple-juice-deliciousness any day! But as you also know, cran-apple-juice-deliciousness isn’t always available at the school cafeteria. As in, NEVER available.

So what’s a girl looking for power food to do? Scarf the greasy fries and call it a day? Nope. There are lots of ways you can make your eating a little healthier in the school caf.

Wrap it Up! If you bring your lunch, try my favorite sandwich: a bacon-tomato-spinach wrap. Or wait, no, a turkey-lettuce-avocado wrap. Or a crunchy hummus and veggie wrap. For wrap-lovers like me (and you!), the healthy combos are pretty much endless!

Grab Four and Score! Remember the four food groups you learned in elementary school? They still apply, dudes. When you’re sliding that plastic tray down the line, make sure to grab at least one of each: fruits and veggies, grains (like bread, pasta, or rice), meats, and dairy (like milk, cheese, or yogurt.) But ALWAYS consider your own personal food allergies first. Allergic reaction in the caf = seriously bad scene.

Got Milk? Back away from the soda. I repeat, back AWAY from the soda. That bubbly-syrupy-sweet stuff should be a treat, NOT a necessity! I always grab low-sugar juice, water, or milk instead.
