Batsheva, Ilana, Chana, and Penina visited the Club BSG headquarters, and brought prizes to WIN!

I looove bath products. I’m, like, addicted to yummy-smelling lotions and body washes. So, when I found out about the ultra-cute, scented designer soaps made by 4 Sisters Soaps, I was HOOKED!
Four Sisters Soaps is a company started by, well, four sisters! There’s 12-year-old Batsheva, 10-year-old Chana, five-year-old Penina, and even two-year-old Ilana! The girls come up with their own designs, create special molds, and then make the soaps right in their own home!
The girls get orders from all over the country for funky, fun-looking soaps in the shape of animals, fruits, suns, moons, stars, and more. They’ve got sparkly soaps, hand-painted soaps, and even soaps with toy surprises inside! (You’ve gotta wash your hands a LOT to get to those!)
Plus, these sisters are true-blue Club BSGers! That’s right—when they’re not making soaps, they like to curl up with a Beacon Street Girls book. Recently, we invited Batsheva, Chana, Penina, Ilana and their mama, Ellen, up to the Club BSG headquarters for a chat. Check it out!

Club BSG: Hey girls! So, tell me. How did 4 Sisters Soaps begin?
Batsheva: We've been making soaps since 2004 when our great-aunt gave us a small soap-making kit. We all loved how fun and creative it was to make soap.
Chana: We also liked that this was something the whole family could do together. After our aunt made us a web site, we decided to start our own soap-making company.
Penina: Now, Mama helps us make the soap and send it out to people.

Club BSG: Why do you guys LOVE making designer soaps?
Batsheva: It’s good clean fun! We want people to become more aware of how important it is to wash your hands, especially in cold and flu season! Cool soaps are great for encouraging kids to wash their hands.
Chana: It’s very interesting to come up with new designs and see what customers think of them.
Penina: I like sprinkling glitter on the soaps!

Club BSG: Making all those soaps must take up a lot of time! Tell us about a typical day where you have an order of soaps to make.
Batsheva: Since I leave for school at seven in the morning and come back around five, it’s often hard to find time to make some soap. Thankfully, I can usually finish most of my homework in school. So, after dinner, I finish up any work I might need to do and make soaps then.
Chana: Since I’m homeschooled, I usually have a class in the morning. Then, I do schoolwork for the rest of the day, hang out with my friends before dinner, and then work on any soap orders after dinner.

Club BSG: Making designer soaps sounds so cool. How do you do it and who gets to do which job?
Chana: We buy clear soap base in 40 pound blocks. First, our mother cuts it into little chunks. Next, Ilana takes the chunks and puts them in plastic bags. Then, we melt down the soap base chunks and add scent and dye. After that, we pour it in to a mold where it will harden after about an hour. Finally, we take the soap out of the mold and shrink wrap it. My special job is painting designs on soaps.
Batsheva: I help mostly with shrink-wrapping and other jobs after the soap is already made. Mainly, though, I work on getting the word out to people about 4 Sisters Soaps. I like to think of myself as an advertising specialist!
Penina: My job is making some soap and adding color, scent, and glitter!

Club BSG: Your soaps are so cute! My favorite is the one that looks like a cupcake—good enough to eat! Which soap is your favorite?
Chana: My favorite soap is the “Some Bunny Loves You” soap that I hand-paint bunnies on. I have a great time experimenting with how I can make them cuter!
Batsheva: It’s hard to pick a favorite. I love the “Best Friends” soap that comes apart into two separate pieces like a best friends necklace. I was the one who came up with the idea for the soap, and seeing it go from an idea into reality was really cool!
Penina: I like the soap that looks like lips. I put glitter in and it looks like lipstick! I also like the ones that we make that look like teddy bears.

Club BSG: Cool! So, I have an older sister, and we fight sometimes. How do you and your sisters get along when you’re working together?
Batsheva: It helps if we come up with a plan on who’s doing what beforehand. That way, no one claims that she had dibs on making the ducky soaps, or something similar. Also, we all try and remember: If you didn’t get to make a soap that you wanted to, you can always make it later!
Chana: Taking a few minutes away from each other and then discussing the conflict with one of our parents always helps.

Club BSG: Elena Maria and I should try that! What’s the craziest thing that’s happened to you while making soaps?
Chana: We were making a big soap order when suddenly, we noticed little blue footprints going out of the room where we make soaps. When we found Ilana, she was covered in blue dye!
Batsheva: Another time, I came home from school and picked up Ilana for a hug. I noticed that she smelled really funny. When I asked my mother what happened, she started laughing and explained that Ilana had dumped a whole packet of one of our strongest scents all over herself!

Club BSG: LOL! Ilana sounds like a very hands-on member of the soap-making team! What are some other things you guys like to do besides making soap?
Batsheva: I’m on the swim team, and I like reading, writing, playing the piano, and unicycling. Some of my favorite books are Lily B. on the Brink of Cool and anything by K.A. Applegate.
Chana: I love gymnastics, karate, playing the piano, and my favorite books are the Beacon Street Girls series and Ella Enchanted.
Penina: I like to watch Arthur and Cyberchase on PBS Kids.

Club BSG: It’s so cool that you guys are superfans of the Beacon Street Girls books! Which BSG book is your favorite, and which one of us are you most like?
Chana: My favorite Beacon Street Girls book is the first one, Worst Enemies/Best Friends. I like that book because the characters and plot seem so realistic. My favorite Beacon Street Girl is Katani because I love designing clothes and being organized.
Batsheva: My favorite book is Ghost Town because it’s so exiting to read about all the adventures the BSG have trapped in the old town. My favorite BSG is Charlotte because I love reading and writing just like her!
