I know it can be hard, but try talking to him about things you have in common - like what you learned in your classes, a favorite movie or TV show, or something like that. Once you start talking to him, I think you'll soon get over your nervousness and get more comfortable around him.

I usually just ignore mean people. They just want to try to upset you. If you show them that you're strong and confident, then they'll get the message and leave you alone. If they don't, then I would ask an adult, like a school counselor, for help.

So here's the story, I have a best friend who lives at the beach ( I live in North Carolina ) and I'm going to camp with her for a month at the best camp known to womankind and this is her first time being away from her mom and the first time going to camp, and I'm worried that she is going to cling on to me the whole time we are at the camp ( the camp is Camp Seafarer ) and I really want to have some down time to myself to hang out with new people, but I don't want to hurt her feelings, . . . so I don't know what I should do. I love her like a sister, I would never do anything to hurt her feelings, but I am REALLY clueless, please help if you can.
You can help your friend make some new friends of her own. If she can get to know some of the girls who are at camp for the first time too, they'll have something in common, and will be less likely to get clingy or homesick.

At first, I felt so lonely being the new girl. But getting involved with activities at school (like making cartoons for the school paper) helped me get to know the girls so much better!!
