Hi! Sometimes I do get embarrassed when I misspell a word, but then I realize that I'm doing the best I can, and there's nothing wrong with that. A lot of people laugh at others who make mistakes because they are secretly glad that it wasn't them who made the mistake. Sometimes, you can nicely remind them how THEY might feel if people laughed at THEIR mistakes!
flickchick1313, you should try to meet in the middle. Example- You ask your mom if you can go to the dance. She says "Hun, your just to young. Maybe next year." You say: "Mom, I've tried to show you that I am responisble enough to go to the dance. But it your decision and I respect it. But the next time there is like a group-date or something- can I go?" Well, telling her flat-out that you're not her friend may hurt her feelings. Instead, remember that not ALL your friends have to be BFFs. You can be friends with her in school or in after-school clubs and stuff without doing sleepovers and things like that :-)

Yikes! No one likes an attention-hogger for very long. I wonder why she'd get mad at you for talking to a boy she says she doesn't like! There is a simple solution to that problem: ask her WHY it bothers her when you talk to him. As for hogging all the attention with your friends, don't let her keep you from expressing yourself. You don't have to be mean. Say something like, "Could you hold on with that thought for a minute? I really want to say something important to everyone." Keep in mind that even though she likes to be the star of the group, it doesn't mean you're any less important to your BFFs.

I have trouble in school sometimes, too, because of my dyslexia. But, I do know that asking for help from my teachers and parents goes a long way. They can take me through whatever we're studying step-by-step -- and at a slower pace than what we do in class. Plus, it shows a lot of EFFORT, which is key in school success.

Ugh! You know, that happens to me sometimes. Like, if I have to write something on the board, I know that my dyslexia will cause me to make mistakes. It's very frustrating at times. I can feel my face get all red, and sometimes I want to cry! But, what those kids don't know is that your dyslexia is making you stronger and STRONGER every day. I know I have to work harder than the other kids, but that just means that I'll have hard-working skills for the rest of my life! And, whenever someone makes fun of me, I think to myself: "You know what, I've got a thick skin, and no one can make me feel bad about something I can't change." In the meantime, make sure you talk to your parents about how you're feelings. It's VERY important not to let these things get all bottled up inside!

Keep in mind that there really is NO shame in telling a teacher or a parent about what is going on. So, if these girls are pulling nasty pranks on you, it's time to 'fess up.
Also, remember that these girls do things to get reactions out of people. So, don't give them what they want. Instead, march right up to a teacher and explain what happened. Or, if they say something mean, come back with "Mmm-hmm, whatever!" Smile and walk away. It's important that they don't make a mean girl out of YOU -- even to them!
You should try ballet, Maeve. It's pretty awesome. Since I was 3 years old, I've been dancing ballet, and now I'm in the intermiediate level doing pointe! It's pretty fantabulous, realizing that one day you could be like Karen Kain, the famous ballerina. You get pretty flexible, so with the excersices it's like a more complicated and structered version of yoga! Jazz is great, too! Super fun. But I REALLY love musical theatre- at my dance camp during the summer, we learned the dances of High School Musical! Awesomely awesome!

Yup, there are a LOT of questions about things when you're our age, huh? I think if you're not, like, BFF with your mom, it might be a little awkward to talk about this stuff. But, the best answers to your questions usually come from people who have been there and who know you. Try writing your mom a note or bring it up in the car so that you're not, like, face-to-face. If you still feel afraid to talk to your mom, try the school nurse. She is soooo used to these kinds of questions, trust me. The bottom line is that the grown-up women in your life have the answers, and they can give you personalized advice based on you and your body. Good luck!

Then, I'd probably run it by my mom to see how she feels about me calling boys. Some 'rents don't love the idea if they find out about it AFTER you do it. Actually, no. Awkwardness can happen with anyone... not just boys you like. I mean, you can definitely think a boy is cute and NOT have a crush on him. That might be the case here. Hmmm... it sounds like she's not ready to end the friendship. But, like I think you know, being mean to her is NOT the answer. That just makes you look bad. But, why end your friendship completely? Explain how you feel, and be persistent but sensitive to her feelings. That way, you don't end up not liking each other -- you can be more like casual friends :-)

First off, it is totally normal to feel scared about getting your first period. The best way to prepare is to talk to your mom or an older female you trust about it. She can give you advice and tell you exactly what to expect and exactly what to do.
Remember that ALL women are meant to get periods, and most deal with it without having it affect their daily lives. By talking to an older girl about the whole process who has been-there-done-that, I bet you'll feel a LOT better ;-)

It's totally normal to feel sad at a time like this. But, it is important to talk about your feelings with grown-ups. Talk to your mom or an adult you trust, and the two of you can come up with a plan of how to get through it together. You can think ahead of time what you'll do if you suddenly feel sad in school and in other places. No matter what, though, talking about your feelings is always better then keeping them bottled up inside.

Hi! I actually haven't seen Titanic yet because my dad says it's kind of a grown-up movie. That's OK with me because I like to watch happy movies more than sad ones! And Full House... let me just tell you that it is one of my FAVE shows of all time! Uh oh! This happens to a lot of girls. They think they have all the time in the world to do homework on vacay, but then stuff comes up and you have places to go and people to see. Before you know it, it's the night before school starts again! But, like my mom always says, I have to be responsible for my schoolwork. Hey, it's never too late to start! Like, I was watching So You Think You Can Dance last season and the winner, Sabra, said that she's only been dancing for four years! If you want to catch up to the girls who are at the top level, you have to practice, practice, and practice hard! But, keep in mind that it's usually more fun to learn something at your own pace and be proud of YOUR accomplishments.

Omigosh, EVERYONE feels weird about her voice. Or, well, at least I do. Like, when I listen to my voice mail recording on my cell, I'm like, "EW! Is that my voice?!?!" I read somewhere that your voice sounds different to you when you're speaking than it does to everyone else because of where your ears are... or whatever. So, it's pretty natural to think your voice sounds different on a recording. My advice: get a second opinion :-)

Well, purple is nice. I do LOVE pink, but I feel like purple is sometimes a nice change. It also compliments the color pink very well, too. So, I'd say that I don't love purple as much as pink, but it is up there on my list of colors.

Some people are just really intense about competition -- no matter if it's for a role in a play or for who is wearing the best outfit. But, it takes TWO to compete, so I'd say just to let it all roll off your back. Hopefully, she'll get the hint. If not, you can say something like, "Sometimes, you get really competitive in drama, and that makes it not really that fun for me." Good luck!

Hi Maeve! I need advice! I am going to audition for The Wizard of Oz, but I have to be prepared with a song because it is a musical!! I never considered myself a great singer, and I can't find a good but easy song. I am thinking of a Christmas carol, like "Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer," but it has to be relatively easy to learn and sing and it has to show off a high voice (becuase singing high is what I'm good at!) Well, I think a good audition piece is one that shows that you've put time and effort into it and one that showcases your voice. So, whatever you feel does that for you, go for it!
I think all kinds of children all over the world should put there creative mind on writing, english ,math!!. Becuase thats more important that TV or video games. You know all of the children can do that stuff once they have done all of the learning. All children have to be learing so they can have a bright future and not a dark one

Making new friends can be fun! Think about what qualities you like in a friend, and try to bring those out of yourself as much as possible. Smiling, laughing, and being friendly are always good ways to be when you're trying to make friends. Real friends will like you for who you ARE... so pretending to be someone else or letting people take advantage of you in one way or another is not the way to get real friends. Dear Maeve, I have a problem. Our class has the privilege of using computers. We only have four, and my best friend is either using a computer, or begging and whining for one. It's SOOOO annoying! She is a total computer hog, and she never lets anyone else use one after her. She could be doing something else. She does it every day, and it annoys everyone. Oh no! Attack of the computer HOG! This is something that you need to talk to your teacher about in private. Stay after school or come in early from recess and tell her that you feel like she's dominating all the computer time and not letting everyone else take a turn. Your teacher can put a stop to it!

Yeah, it is true. Many people who go into showbiz don't make a ton of money like the big actors and actresses, but it is possible. Even if you're not super famous, you can still make a living off being in the biz. You just gotta work super hard at it!

A lot of times, it helps to be outgoing in the theater, but you also have to remember that young girls like us are there to LEARN and behave in a mature way. Think about whether your behavior is a little over the top and take a few steps back, if you know what I mean.

Getting out there is TOUGH! You really need your parents' support to become an actress when you're young. You need to practice, practice, practice, and go on as many auditions as possible. Many times, you can find these auditions online. Talk to your mom and check it out!

You're right. It IS hard to have a friend that's a boy when you're in junior high, but it's not impossible. It might take longer than making a girl friend, but keep trying and DON'T let others make you feel embarrassed about hanging out with boys. You might get teased at first, but if you hang in there, people will get past it :-)

Sugar AND sprinkles! Yum! It sounds like even though you've made it clear that you don't LIKE like him, he's still trying to get your attention by making you react whenever you walk by. If this is really getting annoying, as you walk by, you can smile, say hi, and keep on walking! Hey! My best advice would be to know your audition material inside and out! Practice singing/acting/dancing in front of family members to see where your strengths and weaknesses are when you're up in front of others. Work on those, and the director will like how prepared you are.
Maeve help!I have a crush on this boy named alex.I went to a dance last night and i danced with a group of my friends and he was on of them. Me and him danced and danced but then when i slow song came on he would walk over to the stage and sat there when boys and girls were dancing together.I really wanted to ask him to dance but i was to scared and he looked like he wanted to ask me but he i think was scared too. Maeve theres another dance coming up.What should i do?
Ooooh... slow dancing can be pretty scary at first. It's like you're dancing in a group with a lot of space between you -- and then all of a sudden you're right up close and you're touching the whole time! There are a million reasons why he might not have wanted to slow dance (he doesn't know how, he was sweating, he was nervous, etc). But, if you guys seem to hit it off, show him that slow dancing is NOT so scary after all by asking him yourself! Once you're slow dancing, try to lighten things up with a joke or a funny story. Sometimes, slow dancing can feel like one big, fat awkward silence, so come prepared to make slow dancing more comfortable for both of you. Let me know how the next dance goes!

If you want to get into showbiz, take as many different kinds of dance as possible! Of course, not all at the same time :-) Start out with what interests you the most, and then be open to other forms of dance later.

Can you believe people can be so cruel? But I love them all soooo much! I also have a tortoise but I am trying to get my dad to buy me a horse! Hahaha! I want to be an actress to we should be in a movie together!! 
i don't really like being a shorty but oh well! your lucky that your tall your can reach all of the height places! good luck! on your play! you can be one of those kids in your play.
