Get to Know Your Crush!

You know, sometimes I wish I were in the movies. Well, actually, I wish that ALL the time! But, I find myself especially jealous of those girls in Hollywoodland who get PUSHED together with a cute boy by outside forces. Like, Gabriella and Troy when they sang Karaoke. It ALWAYS works out that the boy ends up liking the girl and the girl ends up liking the guy, and everyone’s happy.

But, what if you and your crush AREN’T pushed together… ever? Like, you’re not in the same class, you don’t have the same friends, and you feel like you’re just meant to stare at him from afar… oh, so romantic!

Romantic, but frustrating. So, how DO you get to know your crush when it seems like the forces of nature are keeping you APART? Read on for my secrets.

Use your resources. If your crush is in your friend’s class (lucky!), talk to her about casually dropping your name in here and there. Like, “Hey, that was a great story you read today in class. My friend Charlotte is a really good writer, too.” Or, if he plays on your brother’s soccer team, go to the games and say “hi” or “good game”—not too hard, right?

Focus on his strengths. If you are talking to your crush casually from time to time and need another excuse to talk to him, think about his strengths and what he’s into. Like, if he’s really into music, you could ask him to recommend which Rolling Stones CD is the best to get for your dad or something. Also, everyone likes to talk about stuff that they’re good at. Bring up a sport he likes or ask him a question about something he knows a LOT about. Chances are, he won’t give you a one-word answer!

Be BOLD. No, really, you gotta be bold sometimes when there are no forces of nature pushing you and your crush together. You have to make it happen for yourself! Yeah, you can have your BFF talk to his friend, but that route can take AGES for anything to happen. Sometimes, you just gotta go up to him, smile, and say “hi!” It shows confidence and friendliness—which are GREAT qualities to have. And, it’s not like you have to single him out, either. Say hey-what’s-up to all his friends, or challenge his group of guys to a soccer match against your group of girls. Sometimes things seem a lot easier when you have your girls behind you!

Crushing from afar might seem impossible, but there ARE ways to get to know your crush when you’re not already in the same group of friends, or neighbors, or picked to sing Karaoke together. Me again! sorry i just wanted to say that it is too cool that you have dancing in gym class we are stuck with vollyball and i am terrible at that so thats another way how i embarass myself in front of my crush because when i served it flew across to the other court and almost hit his best friend in the head. Ahhh! I hope this advice isn't too late! Don't refuse to dance with him. That just calls attention to yourself about something you feel sketchy about!

Yeah, it is kind of weird to be touching boys, but I bet they're just as nervous, too. If you feel embarrassed and your face turns red or your hands start to shake, just laugh a little and say, "Wow, I'm totally nervous about this and I don't know why!" I mean, clearly you know WHY, but sometimes it's better to just acknowledge the fact that this is a little awkward. He'll probably be relieved that you can have a sense of humor about it!

Really, the only way to get over your fear is to encourage yourself to do it. It's nothing bad, it's nothing really romantic, it's just dancing. If you focus on taking romantic-ness out of the equation, well, then it's like dancing with your bro!

I know it is hard to not think about your crush but here is what you can do to get him off your mind.
1.) You can do an activity at school (that he is not doing)
2.) You can find someone else to have a crush on.
3.) You could spend a day with Family or Friends!
4.) You could just say he does not like you but you are still wonderful! So just have fun and don't get down because you are so post to remember the good times not the bad! That's weird. Sometimes boys do things that really have no explanation. Like, he could like you even though he's going out with someone else, or he might be trying to make someone jealous or something equally stupid. But, you have to respect YOU, so if he's with someone else, it's still not cool to be flirting and stuff back. If he really likes you, the right thing to do would be to break up with his gf. 1. What I would say is that he totally shouldnt think that your crazy for liking him! So just go up to him and say that i dont like the way you are calling me crazy and just because i like you it doesnt mean you can treat me like that. Also if you see that from his point of view it is a little weird because if you had a guy friend that liked you and you didnt like them back then you can look at it like that.
2. okey thats weird that this little brother wont stop hitting you. so what i would say is to go up to him and say your brother has been hurting me and hitting me and he wont stop and if that doesnt make him stop you should let someone know like his parents.

Oooh! You should check out my "Should You Tell Him?" mini-quiz. Telling a boy you like him can be done in many ways. Consider the pros and cons of each (like a note is good, but bad since someone else could read it), and then figure out which way you feel works for you.

OK, let's work this out!

Question #1: For a guy to notice you without thinking you're crazy, you have to not do something crazy for him to notice you, you know? You don't need to perform stunts for boys to notice you. Kindness and confidence usually do the trick ;-)

Question #2: Wow... so you, like, go to his house and stuff. That means he's already noticed you! My answer here is DON'T wait for him to tell his brother to stop hitting you. YOU tell his brother to stop hitting you... NOW.

Question #3: It's possible that your friend doesn't even realize she's doing it. But, for her to stop, you have to tell her. Say something like, "You know how you were just sitting super close to so-and-so? I felt weird about that since I like him."

You need a distraction! Try and break out of your normal routine. Like, if you see him walking through the halls between classes, change your route. If he's in your class, try not to think about him as much. As soon as you feel yourself thinking about him, switch gears and do something that's productive to YOU. You deserve to be liking someone who likes you back, so kick "mission: move-on" into high gear!

The LBR?! Oh no! lol. Well, first of all, kick the urge to call your partner an LBR. Put yourself in his/her shoes. School is hard enough without people giving you the cold shoulder! And, that goes for your friend, too. I mean, it's really not her fault that she's with your crush. On the plus side, you have a member of your "team" in there putting in a good word! Jealousy is a difficult emotion to get over, so keep being aware of it whenever it flares up, and teach yourself ways to deal.

Hmmm... things get a lot more complicated when you add a DAD into the mix. A lot of times, girls get kind of giggly and stuff around their crushes, which might make it easy for others to guess. But, it really doesn't matter how they found out. If someone comes up to you all "I heard you have a crush on so-and-so!" You can be all "Yeah, so? It's not like I want to marry him or anything. And, what, like you don't have a crush, too?!" If his dad does embarrass you, well, that's totally not cool. Teachers should not -- I repeat -- should not be singling you out because of something that is not related to class.

How come you're afraid to talk to them when it's cool to hang out? Oh, maybe you mean like a normal conversation. Keep in mind that boys are usually just as nervous as girls. It's not like THEY always know what to say or do. Keep it simple by talking about things you have in common. If it feels awkward, don't force it. Just keep having little "normal" convos everyday to help break the ice.

I have just thought of a great idea to get to know your crush! Well in my class room we have the game whoonu from cranium. So ask your crush if he wants to play. This game is about getting to know people. So what you do is there is one person and you pick 4 cards and in those 4 cards you have to pick the best trait that describes that one person. I think its one of the most fun games i have ever played and its a great way to get to know ur crush because if your crush is that one person then he numbers the cards 1-5 1 being the highest of his favorite and then you can see do u know your crush that well. You can get this game at Target and like any store like that. Hope that helps because I enjoy playing it a lot!

Personaly I'm not very into boys, but not being into to them has let me see what other girls do when they try to talk to a crush. Here are my top 3 tips for talking to a boy you like.

#3-See if you have something in common like a favorite sport, a favorite move star, a favorite book, or a favorite TV show that will make it MUCH easier to talk to him. If you don't anything about him these topics are GREAT conversation starters.

#2-Don't exepect him to totaly open up to you. ESPECIALLY if he's shy! But you should expect a short small coversation maybe as short as few sentences. Hahaha! This sounds familiar. A lot of boys just like to do things to get a reaction. And, when they think the reaction they get is funny, they'll keep doing it... over and over and over! So, it is possible that this boy likes you, but it also could be that he just likes to see people (like you) get worked up!

Liking a boy is nothing to be embarrassed about. Well, actually, yeah it can be a little embarrassing from time to time. That's why a lot of girls keep it to themselves. But, if you feel like you need to tell your parents, just be like, "Yeah, so, I kind of like this boy because he's really nice to me and treats me with respect." It allllways hurts a little when you think your crush likes someone else. But, remember that LOVE is a strong word. Like, I feel like only grown-ups fall in looooove. And, it's okay for kids to like other kids for a long time or even a short time!

What you have to remember (and this is really important) is that you deserve to be with a boy who likes and respects you just the same way you like and respect him. So, when a boy does not show you respect, you have to tell yourself, "okay, maybe this kid isn't right for me!" Focus on surrounding yourself with people who make you feel good about yourself!

You know? Messages get messed up when to have a friend do it. Or, if even if you send him a note, things might not come out the way you want them to. So, even though it's probably the scariest way, face-to-face is the best way to keep things between you and him.

At lunch, I sit in a group of like 9 people (girls and guys). The guy I like is one of those people. I've liked him for a while, and I told my friend, then she told him when I was absent one day. When I came back, I denied it, and my friend caught on. I'm pretty sure he doesn't think I like him anymore, but I know I still do. He's in 3/6 of my classes, and like I mentioned earlier, I sit with him and a few others at lunch. The other kids at our lunch table always talk about how we'd make a cute couple, and whenever they bring it up, he always gets quiet... I catch him staring at me in class sometimes, too. However, 99% of the guys in our grade like this one girl, and the guy I like and his friends talk about liking her too... Does he like me or the other girl? I have a feeling that the me liking him secret is gonna leak out soon, and I'm scared. My friends were encouraging me to tell him, and I even wrote him a note explaining everything the last day before we got out for Christmas break, but I couldn't find the courage to give him the note.

I think that I'm ready to tell him, but how? And how do I know if he likes me or not? If I told him, how bad would it effect our friendship? Please respond soon, because I have a feeling that something's gonna happen when we go back to school in early January...and I wan't to be prepared.

So sorry for the delay! But, I'm always here for you girls. First, you should totally get rid of that note. Seriously. Put it through a shredder! In situations like these, it's important for things to go down YOUR way. So, if someone found the note, there's no telling what could happen to it.

That also applies to your friends. Whatever happens in school, try not to let your friends pressure you into doing or saying something you don't want to.

And, I think boys (just like girls) tend to follow the crowd -- especially when with their friends at school. So, it sounds like this kid is probably just talking about this girl to fit in. It's pretty much impossible for 99% of guys to all like this girl. Every boys likes different things about different girls.

So, (this is a book, huh?) think about what freaks you out and what you feel comfortable with in this situation. And remember: your relationship with this boy (no matter what kind it is) is supposed to be between YOU and HIM. Good luck!

Yes! It does sound like it is very hard to choose. But, you know what? Who said anything about choosing? I think it's totally OK to be friends with both to see who you have the better friend-vibe with. Then, you've gained two friends, and it'll be easier to know which one (or neither!) is right for you down the line.

Ohmigosh, a TON of girls feel this way! I mean, if you think about it, you're just talking... and talking is something you do every day with people. Think about WHY things didn't work out... sometimes, two people who like each other just can't make it work. Like, take my parents. They LOVE each other, but decided it was too difficult to live together as husband and wife. Now, I'm not saying you and this guy are husband and wife, BUT if there is any lesson to be learned from my parents' situation, it's that you need to focus on how you two get along and whether you're good for each other -- not just on feeling that butterflies-in-the-stomach crush feeling.

Oooh... I know a LOT of girls on this page are going through the same thing. Unless you come right out and ask a boy, it's difficult to know for sure whether he likes you. But, a crush is all about wanting to spend more time with someone and wanting to get to know them better. As friends, it sounds like you're already on the right track. Sometimes, not wanting to go out with someone doesn't really have to do with the PERSON. It could just be that he's not ready to be bf/gf, which is totally normal and totally fine. Just like you'd want a boy to respect your decision about going out, you'll have to respect his. But, no need to ignore him. Eeek! This is an awkward situation. What SHOULD happen is that this girl should realize your guy is taken and back off on the crush vibe. But, that doesn't always happen. It's great that you trust your boyfriend and that he says you're the only one he likes, but YOU also have to feel secure. Remind yourself that even though this girl might spend some time with him in class, you've known him longer and you probably know him better. The seven-year friendship isn't something she can compete with ;-) So, keep the jealousy in check and focus on the friendship that exists between the TWO of you -- not the THREE of you!

Oooh... celebrating New Year's Eve with him sounds like fun! I'm not totally sure what you mean by "make a move," but if you TRUST him and feel ready, then there's little reason to be afraid. I mean, from this post and your previous posts, it sounds like this guy really likes and RESPECTS you!

Keep in mind that making a move is not like jumping off a cliff or anything. Like, if you guys hold hands or something New Year's Eve, and then you feel weird about it later, you don't have to hold hands with him again if you don't want to. Just be honest with him -- and encourage him to be honest with you -- about what comes next. Let us know what happens!!!

You should definitely wait to go out with him (or any boy!) if you don't feel ready. It's def a compliment that he keeps asking you out, but he needs to understand that "no, thank you" means "NO, THANK YOU!" But, it's not an all-or-nothing deal. Keep telling him that you'd like to be friends, but that you're not ready to be bf/gf with anyone. There's nothing wrong with that!
