Jonas Brothers Interview

Here are some q’s that many Club BSGers asked, so we got answers for you—straight from the guys themselves!

Q: So, with millions of fans and being on tour all the time, what are some of the things you do to stay grounded? And, ever wish you were just normal and not famous? (also asked by snosurfer615, cooleo, Ashawarya, beachbabe, Lauren 101, iluvhorses7296)

Kevin: I think we really try to be normal people. We try to go to malls, and we try to hang out with our good friends. We work a lot, but we enjoy our time. We’ll have an entire arena become our playground. Literally, we turn it into a waffle-ball stadium inside. We’re pitching to each other and playing home run derby inside the arena. It’s pretty amazing.

Nick: I think we love what we do and we know that we’re living a lot of people’s dream. And, the fact that we’re able to do that is just an honor. We wouldn’t have it any other way.

Q: What can you tell us about your TV show?
(also asked by BSGRocks1297, citygirl, cutegirl1928, kgirl832, kclrox)

Joe: We’re really excited about the show. It’s a show called J.O.N.A.S., and it’s an acronym for Junior Operatives Networking as Spies. I know that probably took a long time to come up with, so we’re really excited about it. We’re secret agents and our cover is that we’re a band. So, it’s really cool, and I think it’s going to be a very fun and great concept. We’re so excited to start filming.

Q: Your co-star, Chelsea Staub, has said she was dating each of you behind your backs? Is that true?

Nick: On the show, yes. There’s a really cool storyline about that. It’s kind of a funny thing, and I think people are really going to think it’s hilarious.

Q: What song do you enjoy playing live the most?
(also asked by kjlla, snowbunny20, callyie, camiB, lil.angel, mileycyrus4949, shaypoth11)

Kevin: Actually, playing S.O.S. has always been amazing, but we also love some of the new songs that we’ve been playing on the tour. We’re actually playing four brand-new songs on the Look Me in the Eyes tour from the record that will be coming out in the summer. One of them is called Burning Up. It’s so much fun to play. I think the audiences are really enjoying that.

Q: Can you explain how you go about writing songs?
(also asked by jellibean283, cooleo, jenie, swimchick96, cutie1011999)

Joe:
We kind of do this thing where we stand in a triangle most of the time, and somebody might have an idea during the day that they want to work on. They may have a melody or a guitar line. And, we just kind of feed off each other and work together. We all work together, and it’s a great process. It’s really fun.

Q: How do you guys deal with life on the road and living together as brothers? How do you deal with any disputes or fights that come up? (also asked by bre101, pacsungirl, soccergirl, km11, sugarpie13, Ashawarya, danney1021, dance_girl, just4kicks, puppa6)

Joe: It’s really cool being on tour with your brothers because you kind of have a different respect for each other. You get on stage every night and you play a concert. You really can’t start arguing and throwing guitars at each other.

So, we get along on tour because I think it’s more about us enjoying this. This is such a cool ride, and we’re having so much fun. We wouldn’t give it up for the world. So, we enjoy it together.

And, I think it’s different from, say, me doing this by myself or Kevin doing this by himself, because we watch each other’s backs. If we ever do have any little arguments, it’s usually about the smallest things—the smallest details—like what song we are going with or why Nick is wearing my socks. Stuff like that.

Q: What do you do before you guys go on stage and sing? (also asked by cooleo, MrsNickJonas101)

Kevin: We do a bunch of different things. We warm up, then we have a lockdown, which means 45 minutes or about an hour before the show—before we’re on stage—we lock down the dressing room. No one comes in or out. We get dressed, we warm up, we stretch out, do a couple pushups. We just get ready for the show and get in the mindset of being about to go on stage. We work really hard at that to make sure we’re prepared every single time.

Q: Your success might seem pretty recent. What was the beginning of your career like before you hooked up with Disney? (also asked by capecoral1995, apple pie, lalala, pinkjinxgirl, BSGgirl08)

Nick: We were playing music for about two and a half years before we teamed up with Disney. We were playing in the smallest clubs in front of 10 people every night. It was tough loading our own gear, tuning our guitars, and doing everything on our own. It was great training for what we’re doing now, and it has really helped us grow.

Q: Have you gotten any tips from Miley Cyrus about being famous?
(also asked by hanabee819, chika_lika620, lexa flex, missgarfieldlove, flikchic1997, krm98, cousins08, shining stars)

Kevin: Miley is a great girl. It’s fun to be able to be a part of the situation with her and everything, and we’ve been honored. I think the best advice we have ever gotten, though, was from Nick Carter from the Backstreet Boys. He said to us, ‘Watch the mistakes of the people you admire the most, and don’t make those mistakes and follow suit.’ So, that was actually really great advice. It was the first thing he ever said to us, and I was like, ‘Wow, that was really impressive.’ That was very cool.

Q: Could you tell us a little bit about your upcoming movie, Camp Rock, and how it came about that you’d actually star in it? (also asked by soccer101, dgfan, rainbowkam, redsoxfreak24, chickflick101, khadija, rockstar989)

Joe: Well, I think it was July of last year that they asked me to audition for a movie for Disney Channel. Of course, we were like, ‘Yeah, sure.’ So, we filmed the audition, and they sent it back to us. We filmed it on this little handy-cam. They were like, ‘We couldn’t even hear what you were saying.’

So, we had to film it on a nice camera and send it back. A week passed, and I really thought I did not get it, and I was kind of bumming out. Then, my dad told me that I got the movie and that they had changed it to where my brothers could be a part of it. So, it was really cool.

Q: How does it make you guys feel knowing that your fans call to get tickets every hour of the day, make huge posters, and post videos on YouTube just to try and be in the same room as you guys? (also asked by fleur11, skywriter8765, daisydoo41, fungirl28, funsummergurl, soccergod, cac507, sadgate, gvhlover)

Kevin: It’s a huge honor. Our fans and everybody out there has been such an amazing part of who we are. Without them, we would be nowhere. … We owe everything we have to our amazing fan base and how radical they are, and that they will call in a thousand times a day and won’t give up. I think that’s what is so exciting, and how we’ve been able to sell out these venues and been able to come to the same cities cities over and over again with only a few months separating it. It’s pretty amazing.

Q: Do you guys ever get sick of your songs?
(also asked by ypadil03)

Kevin: I actually don’t think we have that problem.

Nick:
Maybe the older songs, like when we first started, because we sometimes think about how happy we are with our music now. But, usually we’re not like, ‘Oh no, not this one.’

Kevin: We still listen to the countdowns on the radio stations every night, and we’re excited. If we hear a song on the radio, we turn it up and like crank it up. We’re freaking out that we’re on Top 40 radio and that we’re actually moving up the chart is a whole other thing. We love it.

Q: Nick, is it hard being on the road with diabetes?
(also asked by kenz322, christina11, booger1997, pacsungirl, nollixoxo, butterflya)

Nick: No. At times, it’s a little difficult just to be able to manage it and if I have low blood sugar before I go on stage or something like that. But, for the most part, I really do have a lot of really good people around me to help me manage it. And, I’m doing well. I’m still healthy and keeping up, so it’s all good.

Q: Would you consider separate projects if they were available?

Joe:
I think we probably would if opportunities come along the way. I’m sure Nick may be leading in one part of say, like, a movie. But we all have our opportunities; we all know that even if we want to start side projects or different bands, we would always call it a side project, because the Jonas Brothers comes first for us.

Q: Are you guys playing to the same age group, or do you find that your fans are growing up with you?

Nick: I think the really cool thing about everything that we do is that our fans can really connect with our lyrics and the things that we’re going through ourselves. And, they’re growing up with us. We look out into the audience and see them sing the lyrics to the songs about things that we went through either in a relationship, emotionally, or whatever happened.

Q: Nick, can you tell us a little about your Broadway experience and how it prepared you for what you’re doing now?

Nick: I did Broadway for three years from the time I was like eight to 11. It was great training for what I’m doing now. I learned a lot from that. It was awesome. I think I was three years old or two years old when I was in my grandmother’s house. I was standing on the coffee table, and she was like, ‘Get down, or you’re going to hurt yourself.’ And, I said, ‘No, I’ve got to practice. I’m going to be on Broadway.’ I guess I kind of just knew then. It was pretty cool.

Q: And just for fun, who do you think has the best mustache in the history of the world?

Joe:
Wow. Such a good question. Incredible. That would probably be Ron Burgandy [from Anchorman].

Q. Any plans for your little brother Frankie to join the band?

Kevin: We'd always hope. But, he's got his own band right now that he's working on. He's excited about it.
