Girl Authority
Maeve Kaplan-Taylor: Wow! I can’t believe I’m here with three members of the tween girl group Girl Authority. I am a big fan of your first CD, Girl Authority, and I LOVE Road Trip, your new CD. Gina: Thanks, Maeve! * MKT: Tell me all about Girl Authority. How did the group start? Jacqueline: Well, we’ve all been friends for a long time. We all kind of overlap—a lot of us go to school together; we’ve all been in lots of plays and singing groups together; we hang out at each other’s house. When our record label decided to put out a CD for kids, they thought it was cool that we were this group of regular girls who were all friends. * MKT: Are there really NINE of you in Girl Authority? Zoe: Yup, there are nine of us! It’s funny because you don’t usually see groups with this many members, but we’ve been friends for a while, and we just do our thing together—all nine of us. * MKT: I love how each of you has a Girl Authority name. Jacqueline: It’s fun. We picked something about ourselves that we loved and made up a name for ourselves. I’m “All-Star Girl” because I love sports. Gina: I’m “Urban Girl” because I love the busy, energetic city vibe. Zoe: I’m “Preppy Girl” because that’s my style. I love wearing bright colors, patterns and headbands. Jacqueline: I’ll tell you about the other girls, too. There’s Alex, who’s “Fashion Girl” because she’s always up on the latest fashions. Gina: And Crystal, who’s “Country Girl” because she is such a cowgirl. Zoe: And “Glamour Girl,” Carly, who is so sweet and pretty. Gina: Tarr, who’s “Rock-n-Roll Girl” because her of her rockin’ attitude . . . Jacqueline: And because she knows all the latest bands. Zoe: There’s Jess, who’s “Boho Girl.” She’s kind of bohemian in how she dresses and acts. She’s so much fun! Gina: And “Party Girl,” Kate, who’s the social butterfly of the group. Jacqueline: If you picked a Girl Authority name, what name would you pick, Maeve? * MKT: I would definitely pick “Red Carpet Girl!” Zoe: Ooooh, that’s a good one! MKT: I love that your new CD has a road trip theme. You all look amazing on the CD cover, piled in that fabulous red convertible! Zoe: That car was SO cool! Gina: The road trip theme was lots of fun to work with. We sing covers of some great road trip pop songs like Vacation, Holiday, and Life is a Highway. Jacqueline: And we also sing original songs written just for us. Our record company played us a bunch of songs that writers had sent in for us. We flipped over some of them, and those are the ones that made it onto the CD. MKT: What’s it like recording a CD? Jacqueline: It’s really fun. We have pretty intense vocal rehearsals before we even get into the studio. It’s neat to hear how a song develops from when you first start working on it to when you’ve got it ready to record with all the background harmonies coming together. Gina: And being in the studio is great. It’s exciting after all the rehearsing to finally be recording the songs you’ve been practicing so hard. Zoe: We have a lot of fun in the studio, too. There’s a lounge outside the recording room where we play games and do homework and just hang out when we’re on break. We spent a lot of time in that lounge! * MKT: What’s it like singing in front of a huge crowd of people at your concerts? Zoe: Oh my gosh, it’s so much fun! The crowd gives us so much energy. When we run out on stage and see our fans jumping up and down and cheering for us, it’s the best feeling. Jacqueline: We spend a lot of time in performance rehearsals, perfecting our choreography and stuff. It’s really rewarding to do the songs in front of a crowd—they make it fun. Gina: I like meeting our fans after concerts. We sign posters and t-shirts for them, and they are always so nice to us. * MKT: What kind of Girl Authority message do you want to send out to fans? Jacqueline: To be yourself. We’re all really different, and we all bring something special to the group. We don’t have to pretend to be people we’re not just to be part of the group. We’re all individuals. Gina: Hmmm. I think just to have fun doing the things you love. We all love to sing and dance, and we just do it—we work hard, but we have a blast, too, because we love it. Zoe: Also, we give a message about friendship. We help each other with our singing and dancing, and also we just support each other. We don’t take each other for granted, and we all look out for each other. * MKT: How would you describe Girl Authority in one word? Gina: Energetic. Zoe: Fun! Jacqueline: Zany . . . Gina: Definitely zany! * MKT: Thanks for the interview! I love watching the behind-the-scenes DVD that came with your CD. I felt like I already knew you girls, so it was really cool to chat! Gina: Thanks for interviewing us, Maeve! And don’t forget to keep checking our website, girlauthority.com, for the latest information on what we’re up to. Jacqueline: You asked some really good questions. Zoe: Hope to see you soon!
you tell us ...

Well, i think three words to discribe me would be... 1. CUTE. and i don' mean cute as in pretty or as in bubly cute, i mean cute like so fun cute... 2. SMART. im not being braggy, but i do admit, i AM smart... at least thats what people tell me... AND FINALLY...3. DRAMIATIC,all the way! People always tell me I'm dramatic. I guess instead of calling me HIP GIRL STREET, they can call me MISS. DRAMA QUEEN OF THE UNIVERSE or DRAMA MAMA. Really, who can not agree to that? |
