I am SO excited to be interviewing Sabrina Bryan (of the Cheetah Girls)! Her CD and DVD are so cool, and I love the name BYOU (that’s what the BSG is all about, too). My favorite things to do are to act, sing, and dance, so we’re almost twins (except I have curly red hair). Sabrina has accomplished a lot, but she has her sights set on great things ahead!
Maeve Kaplan-Taylor: Hey Sabrina! OK, let's get the most important question out of the way: what’s your favorite color?
Sabrina Bryan: Pink. Pretty much everything I own is pink.
MKT: Cool! So, tell us. Are you really friends with the other Cheetah Girls?
SB: Yes! Adrienne, Kiely and I hang out all the time. We love being Cheetah Girls. It has brought us so close together.
MKT: Since you're a celeb and all, do you celebrity crush? If so, who?!
SB: Orlando Bloom is a cutie! Johnny Depp is so cute and is an amazing actor. I am also a huge football fan and my favorite player is USC’s quarterback Matt Leinhart. Go #11!
MKT: How about when you're NOT being a celeb. Do you go to school? What’s your favorite subject?
SB: Yes, I do. I take film classes which I absolutely love! I also like math.
MKT: What was your favorite children’s book?
SB: Matilda and
The Baby-sitters Club and of course,
The Cheetah Girls are my faves.
MKT: What are your dreams for the future?
SB: I really love performing on stage, so I’m working really hard to get a solo music career going. I would love to act in drama and comedies as well as produce and direct someday. I pretty much want to do everything!
MKT: Who is your role model?
SB: My parents have a huge impact on my life. They are both so amazing and have always been my main support team.
MKT: What was your life like as a child?
SB: I had a very normal childhood. I went to school and played soccer and took dance classes a lot. I had a neighborhood filled with friends and we would swim and ride bikes together.
MKT: Which do you like better: singing solo or singing with the Cheetah Girls?
SB: That’s a hard question. I really am drawn to more of a pop genre for my voice, which is what I want to do as a solo artist. But, Kiely and Adrienne are two of my closest friends and I love working with them because that means we get to hang out all the time.
MKT: Do you and Dorinda have anything in common at all?
SB: We both love to dance :-) and I can relate to the times she has those not so confident feelings about people not accepting her for herself.
MKT: What inspired you to do BYOU? Did you come up with the idea yourself?
SB: Melissa Wiechmann and Debra Martin Chase came up with the idea and allowed me to join in the development process. I am a co-producer on the project and initially the motivation behind the project really inspired me to get involved. I saw BYOU as a chance to have an impact on other girls’ lives and a way that I could help them create a positive body image for themselves through my own love for dance.
MKT: Why did you choose the title "BYOU" for your album? Does it have anything to do with you, or with all the people all over the world?
SB: BYOU is really just a word for being comfortable being yourself. There’s only one you in the world and you can totally rock by just being you!
MKT: What do you think is the biggest problem with teens/kids staying fit?
SB: I think that the hardest part is finding accurate information and tips on how to maintain a positive lifestyle. I hope that as byou.com grows, we will be able to be a community for girls out there to have fun and learn at the same time.
MKT: Have you read any of the Beacon Street Girls books?
SB: I haven’t read any books yet, but I definitely want to get a copy of Book #6 since it deals with a girl who has body image problems and how she deals with them.
MKT: Do you ever feel like you want to be a regular girl and not be famous?
SB: I'm still a regular girl. I still go to school and hang out with my family and friends! I don’t mind being recognized. I love meeting people and getting to know all about them.
MKT: BTW ... do you have any tips for me on how to make a breakthrough in entertainment?
SB: Practice as hard as you can on whatever your talent is. My parents always told me that if you work hard enough you can reach any goal. Also, let your parents in on your dreams. They can really help you in achieving your goals.
MKT: Thanks so much for being a role model for girls like me!
SB: Thank you!
