Should You Tell Him?

I know what you’re thinking: “I have a crush… should I tell him???” If you’re like me, you might spend hours, days, MONTHS agonizing over the pros, the cons, the consequences, and the risks. You’ve played out the scene in your head hundreds of times, but when it comes down to actually doing it, the right time never seems to come. Take my mini-quiz below and find out if you should take the plunge! Or, spend a few minutes answering the questions on our new survey; it's all about boys and dating and stuff!

1. I have a crush on…
(a) a guy friend. We tell each other everything!
(b) a boy in my class who I talk to sometimes.
(c) a guy I’ve never actually met before.

2. He is soooo cute! But, what I also like about him is that…
(a) he tries hard in school and he’s nice to me and other people.
(b) he’s kind of shy, so he’s a little mysterious and cool.
(c) he’s super smart and everyone loves him.

3. I feel like maybe he likes me, too, because…
(a) he really listens me and we always have fun together.
(b) he kind of looks at me funny sometimes and smiles.
(c) we had to hold hands at an assembly, and I think he squeezed my hand!

4. My crush’s friends…
(a) are kind of like my friends, too. We can hang out and it’s totally cool.
(b) are kind of loud, but I don’t really know them.
(c) are not my friends. I don’t even know who they are!

5. My BFFs don’t know I like him. If they found out, they’d probably be like…
(a) “I knew it! You guys are always hanging out together!”
(b) “Cool! Since you only kinda know him, want me to go talk to him for you?”
(c) “Wow… he doesn’t even know your name. How will you get him to notice you?”

If you answered mostly A’s: You and this boy have a great thing going as friends, which is awesome! But, keep in mind that even if you both like each other, it doesn’t mean you HAVE to be bf/gf. Like, if one of you isn’t ready to be more than friends, things COULD get awkward for a while. But, if that’s a risk you’re willing to take, I’d say go for it!

If you answered mostly B’s: Ladies, this might be the beginning of a beautiful friendship. lol! Think about sending out the good-friend vibe first, rather than the crush vibe. Give him some time to get to know you (and you him)—otherwise, he might feel overwhelmed and totally surprised knowing you like him. In this situation, go with your gut!

If you answered mostly C’s: These crushes are sometimes the best because you get to daydream all day long about what he’s probably like and how sweet he would be if he found out you like him. In your head, he’s the perfect boy. But, in reality, he might not be right for you! Definitely get to know him as a friend first to see if you guys are cool as friends. If you’re not, it might be time to notice OTHER boys!

Bottom Line: Many girls have crushes that they keep secret, and that’s totally OK. Some girls and guys even have crushes on each other and never really admit it. That’s also OK. Don’t feel pressure to try to make your feelings into a bf/gf relationship before you’re ready.

Well, normally, I'd be all, "be honest with him." But, telling someone you don't like them anymore can hurt feelings. Sometimes, it's best to just pull away a bit and see if he gets the hint. If not, you do need to be clear with him so that he is not confused.

Oh no! Complicatedness! The two things you have to remember in this situation is to (1) be sensitive to all these guys' feelings. No deserves to be treated rudely because they have a crush, (2) you don't have to go out with anyone unless YOU want to. Just because there's an offer out there, it doesn't mean you have to take it. If you say "yes" make sure it's really what you want. Good luck!

Three boys! Wow! Well, think about it this way: if a boy asked you out, would you want to be the ONLY girl he's crushing on? If you're crushing on three boys, it might not be the best idea to ask one of them out until you've decided which one you have the best connection with. For now, I'd say just enjoy being friends with all of them!

This is another toughie, because the green monster of jealousy starts to eat away at your friendship! You and your friend have to put the situation in perspective. Is this boy worth fighting over? If you feel like he likes her, are you willing to let it go and be happy for her? Just keep in mind that no matter what happens with this boy, you and your BFF should be on the same page and feeling good about it.

If you think things out you can relize that because if all the boys said that you were the most popular girls the most popular boy probably told them that which means he likes you. Everyone in there lives has to take risks sometimes in there lives even though they are nervous to do them. I think in this situation you should take that risk and tell him because if he is dropping hints then most likely he likes you back. If he doesnt than you guys can always be friends but if he does then that would be great! You will never know unless you try. - first get to know the guy
- if he is not so popular in your class tell no one that you like him
- once you have really got to know him and still like him take him aside at recess one day
- start a conversation and once you guys are comfortable tell him you like him!

NO, that does not matter. You are beautiful, and not being "popular" or short does not change that one bit. If you wait for him to say something, you could be waiting and waiting... and waiting and waiting. Like I said below, it's up to you whether you feel ready to take the leap. But, no matter what, don't let outside things like popularity, looks, and whatever people think is cool prevent you from being confident in yourself!

I'll weigh in, too ;-) It's all about whether you feel ready to take the leap. If you feel like these hints are proof of his feelings, it'll still be brave of you to tell him straight-out how you feel. If you're not ready to do that, I'd say wait either until you are or until he straight-out says he likes you.

Well, like you said, the one who does not have a girlfriend is available. If he acts really sweet and nice around you, I'd say to focus on him. Waiting for the other guy to become available (which might not happen for a very long time), probably isn't the best option for YOU.

Yeah, a crush can totally weird out a friendship between a guy and a girl. Sometimes, it's worth all the awkwardness, and sometimes, it's not. YOU have to decide whether you're cool with just being friends, or if you feel like you have to talk about crushes with him or else you'll burst! But, keep in mind that guys and girls can just hang out with no crushing between them, so don't get too far ahead of your relationship. Good luck!

Actually, I totally wouldn't say to get a job -- unless you wanted to make money for something more valuable than a hoodie. The clothes you wear only matter if YOU think they do. If others judge you because of your clothes, then that's their problem. You just focus on YOU and what makes YOU feel confident. Like my mom always says, if she gave me everything I wanted, she wouldn't be doing me any favors in life.

Ooooh, this is TOUGH. I'd say to not get in the middle of your guy frined and your BFF. Let them sort out what's up between them. But, what you can do is tell your guy friend that you like him. Just say something like, "I know you like my friend, but I just wanted to let you know that I kinda like you, so maybe think about that before you ask my friend out." I wouldn't tell him that your friend doesn't like him. Like I said, let those two sort it out, and avoid the DRAMA.

Yikes! So, you have a guy friend and a crush. If you don't like your guy friend, going out with him will only make a huge mess for you later. Like, he'll find out that you don't really like him AND you'll be leading him on, so feelings will be even mroe hurt than if you had told him the truth from the get-go. Plus, if you have a crush on someone else, that also is not fair to your guy friend, no matter how much you don't want to hurt his feelings. Good luck!

You have to think about your current bf. Unless you're totally into him, you should probably have a talk about breaking up. If he's totally into you and you're not totally into him, it's not fair. Same thing if your roles were reversed. So, before you do anything, get things sorted out with your current bf before someone's feelings get seriously hurt. As for being older than you, it really depends how MUCH older. That's probably for your mom to decide -- I know my mom would have a thing or two to say about it!

Hey! Well, I think you're right in that he might have been feeling weird about telling YOUR friends that he likes you. I mean, if his friends came up to you and asked you the same question, wouldn't you feel iffy about telling your secrets to them? As far as asking about you, it doesn't definitely mean he likes or doesn't like you. But, you were on his mind, and whether he's a friend or a potential bf, that's always a good thing.

If you like him and you think he likes you, then I'd say get it all out in the open if you feel like you absolutely have to. Say something like, "You know, I don't want this convo to be weird, but I like you, and I kinda feel like you like me, too." If the convo goes badly, then try your hardest to get things back where they belong. It'll only mess up your friendship if both of you let it.

It's totally normal to feel uncomfortable around a guy. It's really only a problem if he makes you feel uncomfortable in a creepy or threatening way. You just have to get used to being around him. And, the only way to do that is to hang out as friends.

Well, keep in mind that going out isn't like getting married. So, even if a boy likes you, he might not want to "go out" with you, and that's OK. It's all about how he treats you when you're hanging out and stuff. Okay long confusing story here. In grade 4 and grade 5 I liked this guy. You could say I was obsessed with him but then he changed schools. Totally go for the friend thing first! That way, you get to know each other's personalities and how you guys connect to one other, which is way more important than looks! You can think a boy is totally cute, but then not vibe with him as a friend -- that'll tell you he may not be crush-worthy after all. Good luck!

ive had bad experiences from telling guys that i liked them, but GOOD NEWS, there other ways to show them. suggest a group date to the movies, or the pool, or the beach. and flirt alot.

Good point! If you don't feel like telling him you like him, like "Um, I like you," you can show him in ways like suggesting doing stuff together with a group or talking on the phone or emailing -- and by being a great friend.

well my friend Nibuf (her code name) has 2 crushes. Her first one is N.L. Both Nibuf and my other friend lemon (another code name) like him. N.L always looks over @ their lunch table. They both can't determine who he likes.
The 2nd crush is R.J and he's one of the cool people. She likes him cause even though he doesn't do as good as he can in school, he's a great guy. For the most part he doesn't care what most people think of him. He plays bball and stuff too.
Anyway, both of her crushes are only friends. She would be good with either guy. But she can't tell them b/c she doesn't wanna ruin the friendships.

Hmmm... I think you're right. Maybe it's not such a good time. It could be that he's not ready to be bf/gf, but it doesn't mean he doesn't like you! Keep the friendship going, and who knows what will happen down the road!
