Should You Tell Him?

I know what you’re thinking: “I have a crush… should I tell him???” If you’re like me, you might spend hours, days, MONTHS agonizing over the pros, the cons, the consequences, and the risks. You’ve played out the scene in your head hundreds of times, but when it comes down to actually doing it, the right time never seems to come. Take my mini-quiz below and find out if you should take the plunge! Or, spend a few minutes answering the questions on our new survey; it's all about boys and dating and stuff!

(a) a guy friend. We tell each other everything!
(b) a boy in my class who I talk to sometimes.
(c) a guy I’ve never actually met before.

2. He is soooo cute! But, what I also like about him is that…
(a) he tries hard in school and he’s nice to me and other people.
(b) he’s kind of shy, so he’s a little mysterious and cool.
(c) he’s super smart and everyone loves him.

3. I feel like maybe he likes me, too, because…
(a) he really listens me and we always have fun together.
(b) he kind of looks at me funny sometimes and smiles.
(c) we had to hold hands at an assembly, and I think he squeezed my hand!

4. My crush’s friends…
(a) are kind of like my friends, too. We can hang out and it’s totally cool.
(b) are kind of loud, but I don’t really know them.
(c) are not my friends. I don’t even know who they are!

5. My BFFs don’t know I like him. If they found out, they’d probably be like…
(a) “I knew it! You guys are always hanging out together!”
(b) “Cool! Since you only kinda know him, want me to go talk to him for you?”
(c) “Wow… he doesn’t even know your name. How will you get him to notice you?”

If you answered mostly A’s: You and this boy have a great thing going as friends, which is awesome! But, keep in mind that even if you both like each other, it doesn’t mean you HAVE to be bf/gf. Like, if one of you isn’t ready to be more than friends, things COULD get awkward for a while. But, if that’s a risk you’re willing to take, I’d say go for it!

If you answered mostly B’s: Ladies, this might be the beginning of a beautiful friendship. lol! Think about sending out the good-friend vibe first, rather than the crush vibe. Give him some time to get to know you (and you him)—otherwise, he might feel overwhelmed and totally surprised knowing you like him. In this situation, go with your gut!

If you answered mostly C’s: These crushes are sometimes the best because you get to daydream all day long about what he’s probably like and how sweet he would be if he found out you like him. In your head, he’s the perfect boy. But, in reality, he might not be right for you! Definitely get to know him as a friend first to see if you guys are cool as friends. If you’re not, it might be time to notice OTHER boys!

Bottom Line: Many girls have crushes that they keep secret, and that’s totally OK. Some girls and guys even have crushes on each other and never really admit it. That’s also OK. Don’t feel pressure to try to make your feelings into a bf/gf relationship before you’re ready.

If you feel like you want to get to know your friend's friend better, be honest with her about it. Chances are, she thinks you're great and he's great... so why wouldn't the two of you be great for each other?! If things don't work out, make sure you and she have had that discussion -- make sure nothing will come between you as friends.

Well, keep in mind that going out isn't like getting married. So, even if a boy likes you, he might not want to "go out" with you, and that's OK. It's all about how he treats you when you're hanging out and stuff. If he's not treating you with respect 100 percent of the time, then it might be a good idea to tell him that you're feeling a little used.

Listen to your friends. Figure out why they don't like him. Is it because he gets into trouble? Is it because he doesn't treat you with respect? Or, is it that he doesn't shop at the coolest stores? Think about the reasons why your friends don't like him, and decide whether they are right or wrong. After all, they know you better than most!

It sounds like you should just keep doing what you're doing! Becoming friends first is sooo important, especially since it seems like he's really waiting for the right girl to come along to go out with. That will most likely be a friend that he trusts. So, keep asking to borrow his pencil sharpener, and slowly but surely, I bet you'll be great friends.

Try to think about WHY you don't feel comfortable around him. It could be that, yeah, you have a crush on him, but you're not ready for the whole bf/gf thing, which is totally fine. Take the pressure off yourself to do something you're not ready for, and I bet you'll feel a whole lot better!

I had a huge crush on this kid at my school. We were sort of friends and I didn't feel akward around him whatsoever. I told my friends that I liked him and at a dance they tried to get us to dance together. We did dance and it turns out that he liked me too. But afterward everything got so akward and he wasn't as easy to talk to anymore.

Ugh. The awkward bug. It happens. Sometimes, people have crushes on each other from far away, but then when they actually start hanging out, they realize that their personalities aren't a match. But, it's cool that you took the plunge and told him you like him!

Well its great that he liked you for the two years you liked him but the question is does he like you now. Well this is like the same thing my friend is going through because we went to a dance and she saw him there and he was avoiding her also. Boys can be so so confusing! Well if you ever see him anywhere the thing you should do is talk to him because my friend felt a whole lot better after talking to him. Or you can try to call him like look him up in the phone book because it would be great to hear his voice and if he was smiling at you then he probably wants to see you after not seeing you in a while.Plus when he comes to your school next year I am sure you will have an awesome time! Okay long confusing story here. In grade 4 and grade 5 I liked this guy. You could say I was obsessed with him but then he changed schools. I found out in grade 6 that he had liked me those 2 years too! I'm in grade 7 now and I dont takl to him much. All his old friendsriends still go to my school and I hang out with them him sometimes. But the really weird thing is that now I like him again. Me and my friends were at a dance last week and he was there! I so wanted to dance with him but we were doing this weird thing of avoiding each other then following each other around. My friends do NOT know i like him and would freak if they did. But how do people stop liking each other after 2 years straight of doing so? I'm so confused at weather he likes me or not. Hmmm... he may be crush-worthy and all, but going out with a boy who just broke up with your friend feels like a whole SLEW of problems. You've got your friend's feelings on the line, as well as your own. I'd say wait awhile to see if your friend is cool with it and to see if his feelings for you are for real.

The only thing you can do to make a boy like you for YOU is to be yourself. You do not have to change yourself in any way to get the RIGHT boy to like you. But, telling you is a different story. Just like girls, boys can have crushes and not want to admit them because they're not ready. That's totally normal!

Great question. There's no primo-boy in my life, so I won't be getting any boys stuff for Valentine's Day (besides my BSG Valentines, of course!). If you and your bf feel like exchanging gifts, don't think about what you're SUPPOSED to get (flowers, candy, random necklaces, etc.), think more about what your bf really wants and what will show him you appreciate him -- even if it's just a handmade card!

Well, I feel like there is bound to be some awkwardness in this situation. It's like, now, you two don't know how to act around each other! Take it upon yourself to break the ice. Totally send him the friend vibe and be super casual around him. Once you master that relationship, it'll be easier to make more of it down the road!

omg, u will never believe this! so in art class we had 2 do this thing where one person had 2 draw their partner's eyes right and so i got paird w/ the boy that i sliped a valentine into his locker. so im sitting there and he is drawing my eyes and our eyes lock and seemed like all time stopped, and all i could see was him, it seemed so strange, but in a good way. he actually did a real good job on my eyes. i thought it was just so awesome.

I had a huge cush on this guy last year. I only wanted to tell my closest friend so I did. I can only keep others' secrets, not my own. I told some more of my friends. Before I knew it, I told my friend (the new girl I was trying to befriend). She apparently can't keep a secret. She tried her best, but ended up telling another person. The other person told the guy that I liked him. The guy questioned me, and I told him the truth. Then I later discovered hints from people that he liked me too. At that point my heart had moved on.

Well, I think you have to decide whether you feel influenced by your friends and sibs. If you know him really well and he doesn't seem weird or odd to YOU, then you may be on to something. Good point! If you don't feel like telling him you like him, like "Um, I like you," you can show him in ways like suggesting doing stuff together with a group or talking on the phone or emailing -- and by being a great friend.

Well, I didn't realyl tell him. My yearbook did.U c, my friend wrote my first name and his last name on the back of my yearbook and the two of his friends saw and started asking A LOT of questions. They saw the hearts arou8nd his picture that I drew, and then his fraternal twin brother started to scream my name and then "I knew you liked..." when really, he had thought my friend liked his brother and it was sooooo embarrassing but I guess, looking back, (it was the last day of school last year)I enjoyed it because he KNEW! No biggie! You can make guy friends just like you make girl friends. Think about what you have in common (math class, soccer, drama club), and start chatting about it whenever it feels like a good time. He doesn't have to be the most popular boy in school either. Any boy can be a great guy friend -- just give him a shot!

Ok, the dude I sat beside was REALLY nice, and I liked him. And I told my friend when I slept-over at her house one weekend. Then, on Monday- my other friend asked him out and they were bf and gf for a while. I finally told her how I felt about him, and surprisingly she was okay with it. Eventually, she broke up with him, like, a month after I told her. I still talk to him, we're friends- but for now, I'll admire from afar.
