This year I, Avery Koh Madden, resolve to…

1. Spend more quality time with my brothers. Especially Tim, because I don’t get to see him that much when he’s away at college.

2. Get organized. I know I can be pretty messy (my mom DOES call me the “walking hurricane”), but this year I’m going to do my best to put things where they belong so I don’t have to tear my house a part when I can’t find my homework, or my cleats, or my pet snake, Walter!

3. Study better, practice harder, have more fun. These seven words are going to be my mantra (the phrase I’ll repeat to myself to get inspired). Basically, this year, I just want to be an even more excellent version of me!

Dear skell963,
Yikes, girl! Only a doctor can tell you if you need to lose weight and if you wear an extra small, I doubt it! Doctors take into account things like your height and build, and where you are in terms of growth. I think it is OK to make a resolution to eat healthier -- even I the biggest healthy food nut (ha, did you catch the pun?) could always eat a little healthier. (Then again, you have to treat yourselves sometimes!)

There are a lot of girls out there who end up with eating disorders and stuff. Yuck. Don't be one of them!

I really need to work on a lot. I need to have more patience with my sisters and try not to yell at them so often. I need to not tell eny lies, even if they are just little ones. I need to become a better person, and stick up for my friend when the popular people make fun of her. When I am tired after a sleepover, I need to not act so cranky. Mostly, I need to act more mature. I need to make myself better so that more people will think that I am a good person (and I will be, once I do all these things!) and will come to me asking for advice and if they just want a shoulder to lean on. I also need to clean my room a lot more, do chores without being asked, and be a big help to my family and friends, whether it's at home school, or the mall. I will try to participate and do my best in school contests and fundraisers, especially ones that the money goes to charity. In the summer I will hold a bake sale and give the money to a pet shop -- I can't think of the name for the "homeless shelter" for animals. I want to make the most of this year and have a lot of fun doing it.
